Alan “Skeeter” McAuley, 72, of Hurst, A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend went to be with the Lord on January 30, 2023 in Hurst, Texas.
Skeeter was born to Alton Kenneth McAuley and Bobby Kathleen Flores in Alexandria, Louisiana on December 19, 1950. Skeeter was united in marriage to the love of his life Barbara Jane Elkins on September 5, 1989 in Luckenbach, Texas. When Skeeter got a chance to adventure out into the outdoors he would submerge himself into nature, whether it be watching the wildlife, taking care of the pigs in the bottoms or taking in all the different scenery that he was surrounded by. He enjoyed searching different areas with his metal detector to see what treasure he could find below the surface. When he wasn’t out exploring he would enjoy taking care of his garden and completing crossword puzzles. Above all things, Skeeter enjoyed a bargain! He was always looking for deals with coupons he clipped on Sunday mornings, or shopping through estate sales to sell items on Ebay.
Skeeter was a self taught expert on many subjects surrounding nature and history, especially Texas history. He enjoyed stopping at roadside historical plaques during family road trips. He was an expert storyteller on things that happened during his life or he was trying to pull a prank with the most droll look on his face. But he had this smirk that would always give away the prank. Although overall he was a shy person you would never know that because he could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. His loyalty to those he cared about ran deep in his soul.
Those left to celebrate his life are his wife of 34 years Barbara; His daughter’s Andria and husband Brandon Ellis of Parsons, Kansas and Brandi Shisler of Fort Worth Texas; His son’s Shane Shisler of Fort Worth, Texas and Eric Shisler and his wife Meghan of Freeport, Texas; His grandkids Mattie Ellis, Belle and Dalton Edgar, Alexandria Shisler and Max Shisler; His sisters Janice and husband Tom Graczyk and Donna and husband David Gumfory, and numerous extended family members, nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
